易溶于热醇、醚、丙醇、丙酮、醋酸、苯和氯仿，微溶于冷醇和石油醚，不溶于水,在100ml水中只溶解0.00072g。半数致死量（小鼠，静脉）57mg/kg。有刺激性。
测定水的硬度和钙、镁、钡、铅、汞、锌。有机合成，制造各种棕榈酸金属盐和防水剂。
