Methylal is a colorless, clear, volatile and combustible liquid, which is widely used in coatings, pesticides, organic chemical raw materials, air fresheners, electronic chemicals and other fields. In recent years, many criminals have added unauthorized additives to gasoline, such as methylal, N-methyl aniline, dimethyl carbonate, aromatic hydrocarbons, etc., in pursuit of higher profits in the sales of refined oil products. The addition of methylal to gasoline does not contribute to the octane number.
Using microplate flow control (Deans Switch) heart-cutting technology, a two-dimensional gas chromatography method was established to analyze the content of methylal in gasoline. The equipment is expensive and complicated to operate, making it difficult to configure in ordinary laboratories.

The mass concentration of methylal has a linear relationship with its peak area in the range of 0.040-80.0g·L-1, and the detection limit (3S/N) is 10mg·L-1. The method is used for the analysis of gasoline samples. The recovery rate of standard addition is between 102% and 114%, and the relative standard deviation (n=6) of the measured value is between 0.28% and 0.91%.
