Using the thermal co nductivity cell as the detector, gas chromatography can o nly detect high levels of carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide in the gas. For the analysis of μg-level carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide in the gas, it is affected by the detection limit of the thermal co nductivity cell detector. Analysis requirements, and carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide have no respo nse on the hydrogen flame detector, so the methane co nversion method can be used to hydrogenate carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide into methane, which is then detected by the hydrogen flame detector.
In 1962, K.Porten and D.V.Volman introduced the catalytic reduction of CO, CO2, H2, etc. to form methane, and then the hydrogen flame io nization detector was used for detection. Johns and Thomson further co nfirmed this method and determined the optimal operating parameters of each gas. There are many methods for the analysis of trace carbon in gases, but the most simple and fast method is the methane reformer method in gas chromatography. The sample is separated by a chromatographic column, and the separated carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide are hydrogenated into methane by Ni (nickel) catalyst in a methane reformer, and then detected by a hydrogen flame detector. The methane reformer method in gas chromatography is mainly used for gas chromatography to analyze trace amounts of carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide in propylene and ethylene; trace amounts of carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide in hydrogen; trace amounts of carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide in high-purity permanent gases; analysis of dissolved gases in transformer oil; in the production of synthetic ammo nia from fertilizers analysis of carbon mo noxide and carbon dioxide.
