It has antibacterial, anticancer and antiradiation properties. The quality of royal jelly depends on the content of 10-HDA.

Haohan Chromatography (Shandong) Application Technology Development Co., Ltd. applied packed column gas chromatography to quantitatively analyze the content of 10-hydroxy-trans-2-decenoic acid in royal jelly. The derivatization of 10-hydroxy-trans-2-decenoic acid to methyl ester derivatives avoids the disadvantage that the silylation method may contaminate the detector. The content of 10-hydroxy-trans-2-decenoic acid in seven types of samples including fresh royal jelly, royal jelly freeze-dried powder, royal jelly, ginseng royal jelly, bee milk capsules and shuangbaosu was determined.
